DAB First Deputy Governor Chairs Meeting with Heads of Commercial Banks

A meeting with the Afghanistan Banks Association (ABA) and the heads of commercial banks was held with the First Deputy Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB), Sediqullah Khalid, on the chair, to discuss banking and financial issues.

In the meeting, both sides discussed and exchanged views on general guidelines/strategies for developing electronic payments, effective implementation, transitioning from cash transactions to electronic transactions, expanding financial inclusion, commercial banks’ investment in public-benefit projects, and simplifying banking processes.

Providing comprehensive information on the general guidelines for developing electronic payments, recently approved by the Islamic Emirate’s Prime Minister, Sediqullah Khalid, emphasized the importance of the effective and coordinated implementation of the strategy.

“The gradual transition from cash transactions to electronic and digital transactions constitutes a fundamental step toward modernizing the financial system, enhancing transparency, and increasing economic efficiency,” Khalid said.

He added that the banking sector plays a pivotal role in this regard and commercial banks are required to strengthen their systems, expand their services, and ensure easy access for the public to electronic payment services.

DAB First Deputy Governor urged commercial banks to give special attention to expanding financial inclusion by implementing innovative digital solutions under the guideline, so that all segments of society can benefit from safe, fast, and efficient electronic financial services.

The meeting also addressed commercial banks’ investments in public-benefit projects, emphasizing that such investments are not only crucial for meeting the community’s essential needs but also play a key role in strengthening the banking sector’s social responsibility, supporting economic growth, and enhancing public trust.

Sediqullah Khalid urged commercial banks to reduce their investments abroad in the banking sector, to create more opportunities for investment in public-benefit projects within the country.

It is worth noting that the DAB First Deputy Governor emphasized the simplification of banking processes, calling on commercial banks to streamline their procedures to facilitate greater convenience for the public.
