IMF Review Mission for Afghanistan Ends Successfully

IMF Executive Board completed sixth and last review of Afghanistan economic program and called it successful.

On Dec. 19, IMF reviewed and discussed on Afghanistan’s economic developments and achievements report within sixth review program in UN headquarters and while praising Afghanistan’s performances, officially approved the completion of sixth review. Living up to IMF’s objectives set for Afghanistan is among major gains in ensuring stability and organizational reforms.

In 2016, IMF objectives for Afghanistan were defined on the basis of two key concepts: Ensuring economic stability and leading organizational reforms. This scheme was undertaken in six stages that were successfully accomplished by Afghanistan’s government.

This project’s achievements towards maintaining the stability of major economic indicators include keeping inflation at low level, securing balance in the budget, acceleration of revenue collection process and accumulation of foreign exchange reserves. Some of the goals attained in organizational reform area are: improvement and regulation of finance and revenues, consolidation of infrastructures and legal framework for private sector, intensification of anti-corruption efforts and strengthening of national banking sector.

IMF termed the fulfillment of these objectives in the current conditions as a solemn commitment and determination of people of Afghanistan towards reforms and hailed it as a significant stride to economic development, combating poverty and improvement of social conditions in Afghanistan.
